About Dental Implants
Missing teeth can be effectively dealt with through dental implants, which are not only beautiful and natural-looking but can help restore function to a patient’s mouth. At the practice of Bedford, TX cosmetic dentist, Dr. Scott Staffel, the Isolite mouthpiece is used to make the dental implant process more comfortable and quicker. During the implant process, Dr. Staffel will place titanium posts into the jawbone. The posts will fuse with the jawbone over several months to create a secure foundation to place replacement teeth. Dr. Staffel will determine whether crowns, bridges, or dentures are the best fit for the patient’s needs. The implants will blend seamlessly in the mouth and produce long-lasting outcomes.

"I have been going to Dr Staffel for a little over a year and am very pleased with all aspects of the experience. He and his staff are very proficient and friendly. I have had a root canal, a bridge, a crown, and several cavities filled and was pleased with the results. His prices are reasonable compared to other dentists I've visited in the past. I would recommend him highly to anyone in need of dental work."- B.D. / Google / Aug 14, 2017

What to Expect
Before a dental implant is placed, a thorough dental examination will be conducted to fully assess the health and strength of the gums and jawbone. If the patient is determined to be a good candidate for dental implants, digital X-rays and physical impressions will be taken so that the dentist can determine the best placement for the dental implants. The dentist will also decide if a patient will benefit more from crowns, bridges, or dentures.
Before the actual procedure, patients will be given local anesthesia and sedation, if needed, while the dentist surgically places the titanium posts into the jawbone. Over the following 3 – 6 months, the bone and implant will fuse together during the healing process. Once the implant is secure, a connector, or abutment, is placed in order to place the crown, bridge, or dentures. The dentist will adjust the implant and replacement teeth for a comfortable and accurate fit and a natural look and feel.
The majority of patients experience little to no pain after their dental implants are placed. Some, however, may have temporary soreness and discomfort that can be relieved with an over-the-counter pain medication, like aspirin or Tylenol. To prolong the life of dental implants, you should have a good at-home oral care routine, including daily brushing, flossing, and rinsing with antibacterial mouthwash. Regular dental appointments for professional cleanings and exams are critical for implant care. Dental implants can last a number of years with proper care, but may eventually need to be repaired or replaced, which your dentist will determine.
If your dental implants are considered medically necessary, your dental insurance plan might cover some or most of the costs of the procedure. However, if dental implants are deemed as cosmetic in nature, the procedure usually will not be covered by insurance. During your consultation, our office can confirm your insurance coverage and discuss payment options and financing plans to help make the procedure as affordable as possible.
