About Dental Crowns
Bedford, TX cosmetic dentist, Dr. Scott Staffel, often uses dental crowns to correct a number of issues, such as significantly decayed, broken, cracked, damaged, and discolored teeth. In his office, Dr. Staffel places the crowns, or caps, to cover the entire tooth to restore its look and function. These crowns are strong, durable, and fit securely for years of dependable service. Crowns also help to protect teeth from further damage. Depending on the patient’s needs and desires, crowns can be made of porcelain, metal, or ceramic. Best of all, Dr. Staffel uses the CEREC machine to create and place crowns in only one visit.

What to Expect
To create a custom crown, the dentist first prepares the tooth by removing a thin layer of enamel. Accurate impressions are taken with the use of CEREC’s computer-aided design to capture every angle of the tooth. With the milling capabilities of CEREC, a crown will be created as a patient sits chairside. When the crown is complete, the dentist will carefully fit and set the crown on the tooth. The dentist can adjust the crown as needed for a more comfortable fit.
Treatment Aftercare
After dental crowns, some patients may experience temporary discomfort or tooth sensitivity, but the majority of patients experience no pain or discomfort after a crown is placed. With proper home care and regular dental cleanings and exams, a crown can last 10 – 40 years, depending on the material of the crown. The dentist will monitor the crown and look for any signs of a cavity or infection that could develop under the tooth, which could require a root canal or other procedure.
Insurance Coverage
If the crown is considered a medically necessity, dental insurance may cover some or most of the cost. Our office will gladly check with the patient’s insurance to determine their coverage and any out-of-pocket costs. Estimated costs, payment options, and financing available through our office can be discussed during your consultation.
Strengthen and Protect
A crown is a great way to protect a broken, damaged, or decayed tooth, as well as hide a deep discoloration or cosmetic flaw. To repair the appearance and health of a single tooth, talk to your dentist during a one-on-one consultation and find out if a dental crown is a good option to meet your needs.
